Quality construction methods and high quality materials ensure South Pacific Windows and Doors have the necessary capabilities to provide you with long term comfort, value and visual pleasure.
Aluminium requires only minimal maintenance but, like your motor vehicle, the finish may deteriorate if dirt collects on the surface and is allowed to remain unwashed over a period of time. Window and door frames can be conveniently washed at the same time that the glass is cleaned.
A simple regular cleaning and maintenance program will ensure that appearance and functionality of your South Pacific Windows and Doors is preserved for many years to come.
Cleaning of Window and Door Frames
Powder coated window and door frames should be washed with clean water and a mild non abrasive detergent, e.g. dishwashing liquid, and rinsed off with clean water. A soft clean sponge should be used to avoid scratching of the painted surface. Carefully remove any surface deposits with a wet sponge by gently rubbing. For stubborn marks use methylated spirits and/or turpentine and then rinse off with clean water.
For anodised finish, you should follow the same procedure as the powder coated finish. Avoid high pressure cleaners and do not use strong solvents, as this will damage the finish. Sliding window and door sills should be kept free of dust and grit, either by vacuuming with a narrow nozzle or brush. Use a soft cloth and water mixed with mild detergent to wipe the tracks during and after construction, otherwise a build up of dust/debris will prevent window/door from sliding smoothly.
The drainage slots should be checked to ensure that they are not blocked. Detergents that recommend the use of gloves when handling, should be avoided, as this is a good indication that the detergent is harsh and therefore not suitable on our products.
Glass Cleaning
Clean water with a small amount of mild detergent should be used to wash general glass. After washing, the glass should be thoroughly rinsed with clean water to remove detergent residue. Specialty glass; LowE including ComfortPlus, EnergyTech, Lightbridge, Cardinal etc., extra care is required on the internal face of glass (inside home only). “Windex Glass and Surface” in clear, not blue, is recommended, using a clean lint free cloth. DO NOT use squeegees, razor blades, scrapers, scourers, or abrasive products, as they will scratch and damage the glass. The external face of the glass (outside home) can be cleaned the same way as general glass. DO NOT clean glass when it is hot or in direct sunlight.
Hardware Maintenance
Hardware such as locks, hinges, catches, closers and the like, require general periodic maintenance and should be wiped down with warm water and mild detergent and rinsed clean to remove any dust and grit. Maintenance of hardware is even more important in coastal and industrial areas, and around pools, and in outer suburban areas.
Even stainless steel products require maintenance to remove any damaging residue (especially salt spray) by using a non-abrasive cleaning agent.
They should be given a light spray of corrosion preventative, such as WD40, Inox, RP7, or similar, followed by a light wipe to remove any excess. Cleaning will assist in helping to avoid pitting and degradation of the surface finish and the operation of hardware. Whilst stainless steel hardware items are resistant to rust, the formation of “tea staining” will occur and this can be removed by using a mild abrasive cleaner, i.e. gumption, and rinsing with clean water.
Drop bolts should be sprayed with a silicone based spray e.g. Selleys Ezy Glide, at the sliding pin inside the bolt, and use graphite powder (available some hardware stores, locksmiths) on the lock cylinder, to maintain a smooth action.
Easy to maintain
Flyscreens can be cleaned by gently vacuuming with the brush attachment or you can remove screens, hose down thoroughly, and using a soft nylon brush or sponge, and warm water with mild detergent and gently brush the screen. Hose down well and allow to dry prior to replacing on the door or window.
Frequency of Cleaning
The procedures noted above require to be carried out as often as is necessary. South Pacific requires the following minimum care and maintenance to be followed on a regular basis, otherwise the warranty shall be voided.
Protecting your delivery
Once windows and doors are delivered, it is the responsibility of the builder/owner to ensure that they are protected from site work damage.
Protection should be given to exposed hardware, glass and aluminium frames during the construction process, in particular when exposed to mortar, plaster, brick cleaning acid, welding, render, etc. Wash away any spillage immediately or permanent damage will result, thus voiding the warranty.
